Can You Help?

  •  Our first experience with Aldabra tortoises began at Chester Zoo in the late 1970’s and early 80’s and it ignited a determined passion to have one of our own. We were wondering if there was anyone out there who had a picture of these Aldabra Giant Tortoises, and knows what happened to them?

  • We were also wondering what Aldabras you have seen in the wider world, maybe whilst you were on holiday? We are only interested in the big grey Aldabras not brown Sulcata’s. We are always looking for ideas to improve our set up and enrichment for our tortoises and thought we would look at other collections abroad, for further inspiration. So which places would you recommend we contact? Whose animals looked happy and stimulated?

  • It seems, a growing number of Aldabra Giant Tortoises have a split 5th Vertebral Scute, to varying degrees. Whilst it is not detrimental to their health, we we wondering if anyone knew if the wild tortoises, on Aldabra, have this? Or if it is something that has become more common through the captive breeding of certain animals in the conservation parks on Mauritius?
